Commonwealth accessibility policy
The accessibility obligations that apply to every Commonwealth public service, website, and internal tool.
Scope
This policy applies to every public-facing Commonwealth service, website, and mobile application, and to internal tools used by public sector staff. There is no exemption for internal systems: a member of staff who cannot use the tool they are given cannot do their job.
Obligations
Services must meet WCAG 2.2 to level AA, publish an accessibility statement, keep it current, and provide a tested route through for people who cannot complete the service online.
Where a service cannot meet a requirement, the reason and the plan to fix it must be published in the accessibility statement rather than left unstated.
