Service
Commonwealth Pay
Take card and bank payments in a public service, with refunds, reconciliation, and reporting handled for you.
Onboarding is phased until December 2026
The 2026 payment rules change how refunds are evidenced. We are onboarding a limited number of departments each month so that every service goes live against the new rules rather than being migrated later.
Availability
New departments are being onboarded in phases while the 2026 payment rules are implemented. Existing services are unaffected.
Who can use this service
- Commonwealth departments and their agencies
- Local authorities collecting a statutory charge or fee
Before you start
You will need agreement from your finance team on which account payments settle to.
Onboarding currently takes six to eight weeks because of the phased rollout.
You can build and test against the sandbox immediately, without waiting.
How to use this service
Register your interest
Tell us which service needs to take payments, roughly how many, and when you plan to go live.
Build against the sandbox
The sandbox is open to everyone and behaves identically to the live platform, including refunds and failures.
Complete the finance agreement
Your finance team confirms the settlement account and the reconciliation reports they need.
Go live in your allocated phase
We confirm your phase when you register. Phases run monthly and we will tell you if yours moves.
